Apple Sets Sept. 9 Event for Its Expected Foldable iPhone

Bloomberg and Gizmodo say the device will bring Apple into a format that accounts for just 1.13% of U.S. smartphones, and anchor John Ternus’s first major product event as CEO.

Apple’s blue invitation sends guests to the Steve Jobs Theater at 10 a.m. Pacific beneath a glowing logo and the line “Surprise and shine.” It names no products, so the foldable remains unconfirmed.

Apple has never sold a foldable iPhone. Ternus is due to replace Tim Cook on Sept. 1, putting Apple’s biggest product introduction of the year eight days into his tenure.
