Work your primary dot does directly will remain included in your subscription without spending your regular plan allowance, OpenAI’s Thibault Sottiaux says. That is a longer-term commitment than the introductory month described in OpenAI’s help page. Future upgrades for more speed and capacity will cost extra, he says; baseline functionality will stay included.
The distinction is who does the work. If the dot handles it itself, Sottiaux says it does not draw down your allowance. If it creates a Codex task, that task consumes usage normally. OpenAI’s launch page says the same applies to delegated ChatGPT Work tasks.
This is not a promise of unlimited work at unlimited speed. The launch page describes an included allowance for deeper work, with extended limits during the first month. The help page still says subsequent usage terms are forthcoming. OpenAI has not specified those baseline capacity limits or prices for the planned upgrades.
For subscribers, the useful clarification is that the primary dot is intended to remain an addition to their regular allowance, not simply a new way to spend it. Handing work off to Codex or ChatGPT Work remains the exception.
I got community noted, but the note is wrong 😅 Your primary dot is included in your plan and will be available 24/7. If you ask it to create a codex task for you, that one will be drawing usage as usual. But when your dot does work directly, that uses nothing and is all on top of your plans usage. In the future you will be able to increase the speed and allow your dot to have more bandwidth, this will be a paid feature, but the baseline functionality will always just be included in your plan.
